Sunday 5th May – Manchester Academy
Monday 6th May – Glasgow O2 Academy
Wednesday 8th May – Birmingham O2 Academy
Thursday 9th May – London Eventim Apollo
Along with joining Young on tour across Britain, Ell is also currently working on her new studio album which is the follow up to her 2017 number 1 debut ‘The Project’.
Here we speak exclusively to Lindsay Ell to discuss her forthcoming UK tour dates, the British fans and her new album:
How excited are you to be back in the UK for this tour?
So excited to be back. I love it here, I feel like I should just buy a house here.
What would you say is the biggest difference between UK audiences compared to international ones?
The UK fans really just listen to the lyrics and the music, and as a guitarist I just love that. They just love the music and appreciate it more than anyone else in the world.
How did this tour slot with Chris Young come about?
Chris and I are great friends and I just love his voice. He’s a really great singer and I’m so lucky the timings worked out. Usually when a friend asks the timings are off because we’re always in different places so I’m grateful this is happening.
So, what can fans expect from your set during the show?
They can expect plenty of guitar. I play electric, bass and acoustic so it’s going to be really fun.
Along with the tour you’re also working on a new album, when can fans expect the first taste of the record?
The new album is expected next year and they can definitely expect new music hopefully around the Fall. I’m really excited about this record. I’ve recently turned 30 and have also gone through my first public break up which was really tough. So this is going to be a really personal record. I hope the fans connect and feel like “oh Lindsay has also been through that”.
Sonically can we expect a mainstream Country style or is there going to be a mix?
Sonically it’s going to be a mix for sure. I listen to all kinds of music from the Blues to Pop and if you look at my playlist on my phone you’ll see everything from Stevie Wonder to Queen. I feel I’m Country because of the storytelling aspect, and I focus on lyrics but as far as sonically goes fans can expect a real mix of styles.
Can we also expect a headline tour of the UK in support of the new album?
I’ll be headlining a tour for sure when the album is out. I think this is my sixth time touring over here or close to it [with Chris Young] I just love the UK fans. I think because I’m Canadian I feel it’s very similar.
Do you feel any pressure with the new record after the success of your debut LP?
I do feel pressure. I definitely want to live up to the fans’ expectations or even blow them out the water.
Sarah Darling recorded her new album ‘Wonderland’ entirely in the UK is that something you would be interested in doing?
I would love to. I’m always writing on the road, I live in Nashville but I think I spent 35 days there out of last year as I’m touring so much. I’m always writing notes in my phone at the airport and I have friends who have recorded in the UK or added strings and I’m always like “oh I love that”, so yes I’m up for that. The album isn’t finished yet so who knows.
What other goals do you hope to achieve this year?
This year is going super fast but I’d love to have a collaboration on my next record. I’ve written with The Vamps so a collaboration with them would be amazing. Also, Ed Sheeran. I just love his songwriting.
Finally, do you have a message for the UK fans coming to your shows this month?
The UK fans are my favourite in the whole world, I will go on record saying that. I love hearing what you guys love, so tweet me, Instagram me and comment on my posts telling me what you want to hear. I love getting to know you all better.
