John Krasinski Explains Why He Sold Some Good News To ViacomCBS
John Krasinski has brought joy to millions of people all over the world during the COVID-19 lockdown with his YouTube series Some Good News. But after eight episodes, The Office alum signed off and sold the show to ViacomCBS, which disappointed many fans and led some to call him a sell out.
During a recent appearance on Rainn Wilson’s Instagram Live series Hey There, Human, Krasinski discussed his successful web series with his former The Office co-star. And, he explained that he decided to sell the show because that was the only way to keep it going.

“I was only planning on doing eight of them during quarantine, because I have these other things that I’m going to be having to do very soon, like Jack Ryan and all this other stuff,” explained Krasinski. “More than that… writing, directing, and producing — all those things — with a couple of my friends was so much.”
The 40-year-old said that once he goes back to work on his prior commitments, continuing the show would not be “sustainable.” However, Krasinski did admit that he wishes he could keep doing the show from his home office forever.
Even though he will no longer be hosting the show, Krasinski said he will be part of Some Good News whenever possible. He said that in just eight weeks, the show went from not existing to being on a huge network. Krasinski teased that they have “a lot of really fun stuff planned” and he can’t wait to “dig in.”
Krasinski also promised that he will host a few episodes in the future, and he will bring on a different community of people. When it comes down to it, Krasinski is “really, really excited about it.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Krasinski self-financed and self-produced Some Good News during its original eight-week run. But, future episodes will be produced by Comedy Central Productions with Krasinski as executive producer. There will also be a new host who is expected to be announced at a later date.
Since John Krasinski posted his first episode of Some Good News back in March, the channel (which features eight full episodes plus clips) has received tens of millions of views and gained more than 2.5 million subscribers.

He told Rainn Wilson that working on Some Good News has resulted in him receiving the “most amazingly kind notes” about how much the show means to people. But, Krasinski says that the truth is the show meant more to him than anyone else, and it’s caused him to be the most emotionally fulfilled he has ever felt in his entire life.
