Mark Wahlberg Reveals His 10-Year-Old Daughter Was Too Embarrassed To Dance With Him At Daddy/Daught
Mark Wahlberg stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday to promote his new movie Spenser Confidential. And, during the interview the 48-year-old actor revealed that his 10-year-old daughter Grace Margaret refused to dance with him at a recent father/daughter event because she was too embarrassed.
DeGeneres said that people might think Wahlberg’s daughter would be thrilled to have a famous actor as her dad, and she was surprised that Grace wouldn’t dance with the Daddy’s Home star.
“I didn’t get one dance,” said the father of four. “I told her we were gonna do the whole big circle and then I was gonna go off and she said ‘Dad if you embarrass me I will never talk to you again.’”
Wahlberg said that he did get the opportunity to spend time with his daughter away from the dance floor when Grace sat down near the DJ. But, he immediately noticed that the DJ wasn’t playing songs that were appropriate for young children.
He explained that he was sitting with one other dad and he realized that the DJ was playing songs with explicit lyrics at a school dance for girls instead of an edited version, and he thought that was “no good.”
Wahlberg said he confronted the DJ about his song choices and asked: “What are you doing? I’m hearing f-bombs and this and that. That’s not okay.”
Despite the dis from his daughter, Wahlberg said that he and Grace still had a great time at the dance. But, DeGeneres was still in shock that anyone would turn down the opportunity to dance with the actor. She then joked about Wahlberg’s 90s rap group Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, and asked if Grace has ever seen that.
Wahlberg says that she has, and she told him that if she ever saw it again she wouldn’t talk to him anymore.

Apparently, none of Wahlberg’s other children – Ella Rae, 16, Michael, 13, and Brendan Joseph, 11 – are big fans of their dad’s rap career or his massive hit Good Vibrations. He told Willie Geist on the Today Show in 2018 that he was at his son’s football game when they started playing Good Vibrations in the middle of the contest.
“My wife is just cracking up laughing, but she’s looking at my son who’s basically burying his head in his helmet,” said Mark Wahlberg. “It’s fine for me. I don’t want to make their life any more difficult. My past is not their burden to bear.”
