Recap: 'The X Factor' UK - Episode 8
The eighth episode of ‘The X Factor’ marks the round-up of this year’s auditions and we have not been left disappointed. From the talented to the indescribable to the wacky and weird, this year’s auditions have been thoroughly entertaining and we are already looking forward to the next round of the competition!

The first audition shown was twenty year old Thomas Pound, from South Wales. Speaking to the Judges ahead of his performance, he said that his alter ego was that of being a Drag Queen, named Lady Frieda Wylde, going on to say that he wanted to bring ‘something new to the competition. He went on to perform the Tina Turner hit ‘Simply The Best’ and his performance was prematurely stopped. Simon Cowell encouraged him to come back as his alter ego, for what he described as ‘more outrageous.’
His second performance – this time as Lady Frieda Wylde – was shown later in the show. Another Tina Turner hit was performed and the audience were on their feet singing and dancing along. Robbie Williams went on to say that he loved the performance and this contestant received four ‘Yes’ votes – making it through to the next section of the competition.
Northern Irish Chloe McAllister was next to take to the stage. She performed a beautiful rendition of Jessie Ware’s ‘Say You Love Me.’ She performed the track on the piano, adding even more value to her performance. Her performance had quite an impact on the Judges – particularly Judge Robbie Williams, who was very emotional. He went on to speak about his daughter, saying that Chloe was ‘the person I want my daughter to be like’ and Ayda Field-Williams said that she ‘felt the heartbreak’ in her performance. Chloe received four ‘Yes’ votes from the Judges – making it through to the next part of the competition.
The third audition shown in this episode was sixteen year old Blaise Duncan. When asked who his biggest idol was, he said his Grandad. He performed Enrique Iglesias hit ‘Bailando,’ with the crowd singing and dancing. His performance was stopped by Robbie Williams, who went on to explain that he was ‘a diamond in the rough’ and Ayda Field-Williams said that he was ‘something special.’ He was also commended by Louis Tomlinson for having an understanding of his identity. He received four ‘Yes’ votes from the Judges.
Eighteen year old Jon Guelas performed an acoustic rendition of ‘Seven Years’ by Lukas Graham and received an excellent response from the crowd before he had even started to talk to the Judges! Louis Tomlinson said that he had an ‘interesting and nice tone’ and Ayda Field-Williams said that she would be supporting him. He received four ‘Yes’ votes from the Judges, making it through to the next round.
Elliot Horne was the next contestant to perform in this episode, explaining that ‘everything is music.’ He performed Shawn Mendes’ ‘Lost In Japan’ and his performance earned him an incredible reaction. Louis Tomlinson that he ‘needs development,’ but nevertheless he saw the potential in him and Elliot received four ‘Yes’ votes from the Judging Panel – making it through to the next round on the show.
Family four-piece ATTY from Birmingham said that with their performance, they wanted to ‘touch some hearts.’ They performed a very unique version of Shawn Mendes’ ‘Mercy.’ Their performance earned them a full standing ovation from the Judges and Louis Tomlinson stated that their performance was ‘moving’ and Robbie Williams went on to describe their audition as ‘powerful.’ They also received four ‘Yes’ votes from the Judges – making it through to the next round.
Once the auditions had been shown, Dermot explained that this year, there would be no Bootcamp; meaning the next round is to be the Six Chair Challenge, hence, after a difficult deliberation, half the contestants failed to make it through to this round. In one room were the contestants who would be making it through to the Six Chair Challenge and in the remaining room were the contestants who would be going home.
After the good news had been delivered to the contestants who would be making it through to the Six Chair Challenge, it was time for the Judges to find out their categories and for the contestants to find out who their mentor would be.
