As a child, his mother would not let him go outside the house very often due to which he would get plenty of time to practice the instrument at home.

On April 9, 2004, his parents were found dead at their home in Fallbrook, California, due to accidental carbon monoxide poisoning from their fireplace. Just hours after the incident, he had decided to honor his commitment and perform at a concert in Appleton, Wisconsin.
