Woolworths recalls summer berry mince pies in NSW stores
Households across NSW are urged to check their mince pies before their Christmas feasts, after a major supermarket issued a warning that a popular product could contain foreign metal pieces.
The supermarket giant issued the recall on Friday, warning consumers to return its six-pack of shortcrust summer berry mince pies if they have a best before date of 13/06/2024.
“Consumers should not eat this product,” Woolworths said in its recall notice.
Woolworths has also warned: “Food products containing metal may cause illness/injury if consumed”.
NSW is the only Australian state where the popular festive treat has been recalled, however the New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industries have also issued a warning for the same product.
The government agency said affected batches have the best before date of 12/06/2024 and 13/06/2024.
The product has been sold at Woolworths, Countdown, SuperValue and FreshChoice supermarkets throughout New Zealand.
Consumers are advised to return the product for a full refund.
Woolies said the regular variety of its Fruit Mince Pies had not been affected by the recall and remain safe to eat.
“Woolworths takes product safety seriously and apologises for any inconvenience caused by this recall,” it said.
Anyone concerned about their health should seek medical advice.
Customers have been told to contact Woolworths on 1800 103 515.
